Ford Grand C-Max consumer car reviews

Ford Grand C-Max 2012

The fuel consumption is appalling! I can hardly reach 38 MPG in combine cycle with cruise control on, but Ford say "The 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi - there’s exceptional fuel efficiency (combined cycle) of 57.7 mpg." OK, I wonder what the dealer will say when I come in to return this car due to false advertising?

They will just ignore you Matt. So will Ford. In spite of the fact that their mpg claims are pie in the sky. - Mike Atkin from Derbyshire

I was enticed to this one by the adaptability of the interior and the MPG. Unfortunately it’s failed on both counts. Combined Cycle MPG was advertised as 57.7 mpg. I didn’t expect 57.7 but I expected more than 44 mpg and I’m not a boy racer. Dismal. Interior seat mechanisms don’t work properly making it a pain to change the seat configurations. I’ve had a few issues with starting the car and the Ford dealer had the car for 5 days with no courtesy car available. That’s how long it took them to change a battery. They thought I should have been pleased that it was done under warranty. Dismal. I’ve not had a Ford for a while and I had forgotten how dismal their service network is. Overall it drives OK, albeit slightly underpowered, but it’s depressing seeing the MPG figure as I drive.

It generally looks well built and drives/handles well. It has an excllent boot size with third row of seats down, but I’m not so sure about the driver’s seat comfort. I do have a niggle with the tyre pressure warning light that won’t go off, even after putting air in the tyres. The local Ford Dealer has no idea how to reset the tyre warning either! A bit of a worry as there’s no spare wheel and the boxes of stuff in the back to fix a flat are not easy to understand or use. The handbook is hopeless at explaining how to set the various items, although somehow I figured how to get the Bluetooth and Radio/CD working. The sliding rear doors are heavy and not easy to use if you have arthritis.

A very comfortable car with a lot of equipment. Unfortunately the long roof aerial touches my garage door, so I will have to find a shorter replacement as Ford do not have one.

Ford Grand C-MAX 2010 road test report

The clue to this new Ford people carrier is in the name: Grand. It’s a stretched version of the standard C-Max, adding 140mm to the length, to fit in a third row of seats. This makes the Ford a rival, at last, for the likes of the Vauxhall Zafira and Volkswagen Touran while not treading on the toes [...]
