Good looking and exclusive - if you can do without the brand image of the Merc, BMW, Audi then this is an excellent alternative to their offerings. My last 3 cars have been Jags and I fancied a change so bought a 3-year old petrol CX7 for a complete change. As quick as a diesel S type Jag, more practical and more exclusive. Yes, it’s a bit thirsty (average 25mph) and the turning circle is crap in multi-storey car parks, but otherwise its a great car. £11k for a motor like this with just 30,000 miles, I can suffer the fact that I have to visit the petrol station a little more often than I would like. Better that than pay £25,000 plus for a 3-year old (box-like) X5 or M-Class.

I bought the car as an ex-demonstrator from a Mazda dealer when it was about 6 months old with about 9000 miles on the clock. First impressions were great, lovely car to drive with plenty of go. The novelty has now worn off however, running cost are high, 21mpg according to the trip computer, it doesn’t seem to make much difference how you drive either and tax at £400 odd per year. The biggest problem though is reliability as a new stearing rack was need, £1000 but done under warranty, the steering rack again plus engine mounts, probably due to not been fitted correctly by the dealer the 1st time, and now the clutch and fly wheel have required replacement at only 19000 miles. £1850 repair cost and Mazda refused to do it under warranty as apparently it’s the way I drive it! Funny, I’ve been driving for 30 odd years and never had to buy a new clutch before, it’s the way they make it more like. Anyway it will have to go now and Mazda can rest assured that I shall never be buying another of their products. Not that that will bother them much I guess...

A great car with the added touch of being exclusive as not many on the road. Superb spec but just three niggles-no keyless entry, front passenger seat not electric and no option for built in sat nav. Super car to drive and really comfortable although expensive to run. Low servicing costs though.

I’ve had this car for 5 months now and I have to say it really does live up to it’s SUV/sportscar crossover sales pitch. You can really push this car and it just keeps giving; I do a lot of mileage, here and throughout Europe and this car has loved everything I’ve thrown at it. On the downside, it’s not the cheapest car in it’s class to run. Great family car, very comfortable and spacious. Good looking car too. Thumbs up.

Excellently equipped 4x4 with nice design and high level of comfort. Very enjoyable to drive indeed with the turbocharged engine making sure you never get bored behind the wheel. Would like to have had the option of a diesel model but that is my only gripe with Mazda regarding this vehicle.

Mazda CX-7 2.2 Sport Tech Diesel road test report

While the compact SUV market is a competitive sector, Mazda’s effort is a stellar one; even if its approach is a one-engine, one-trim attempt to capture the market. Handling and performance are standout, while equipment levels are pretty impressive too. It may be the only model, but don’t overlook i [...]

Mazda CX-7 road test report

Mazda first launched its Mazda CX-7 crossover – a high-riding family car masquerading as a sports utility vehicle - in 2007. On paper, it had the looks and on-road presence to offer a real alternative to the 4x4s that usually find favour among owners of ‘Chelsea tractors’. Unfortunately, there was a [...]
