Mazda Tribute 2005

2 star review

Same trouble here. No rust on the body of the car at all but... The vehicle is a 2005 Mazda Tribute. The right rear wheel well metal as well is rusted through. I have heard it is evident on Ford Escapes as well. The right rear is worst affected area with some spotting starting on the rear left. This problem occurred on Monday, late July, 2013. The other recurring rust problem is the muffler / exhaust system which needs to be fist almost every system. This is a single, long piece for some reason and is expensive to replace if you can not find someone willing to weld a joiner connection to the new muffler.

We have a 2004 Mazda Tribute - the right rear wheel well metal is totally rusted through - no body metal now connected to the suspension/shocks - maybe using the wrong terminology. Seeing the start of the same rust problem on the left rear wheel well. Never had a car in the past do this - crazy - not even 10 years old - from United States of America

Saw your post and our 2005 Mazda Tribute’s passenger rear wheel well is completely rusted out. I went to safecar.gov and filed a complaint for the NHTSA. You should do the same, it only strengthens the case for a recall. This is happening to lots of owners as well as its sibling car the Ford Escape 2005. I’m going to try and fight Mazda on this! 90,000 miles, original owner?! The mechanic said this should not be happening whatsoever. Good Luck:) - from United States of America

I purchased my 2005 Mazda brand new from a Mazda Dealership in 2005. I have never had an issue with the performance of my care, but several weeks, ago I kept hearing this strange noise, so I took it to a Mazda Dealership and they confirmed that the Righ Wheel Well had rusted out. I could not believe that there was so much rust in the Wheel Well. My car has 110,000 miles on it and I was hoping it would last for at least 2 more years. The Mazda Dealership basically condemned my car and told me, if I drove it off their lot that I had to sign a waiver that I knew it was not safe. Okay, we recommend that you buy another vehicle, asap! I got on a chat line with Mazda Headquarters and shared this issue with a representative who basically told me how the car should be washed after a snow storm, because in DE the Transportation Department puts down more salt on the Right Side of the road, HOW RIDICULOUS CAN YOU GET? In addtion to this insult he told me that my car was too far out of the warranty! I am very upset at this time and planning to share my story with anyone who will listen. I purchased this car with my hard earned money and now I feel like I really got ripped off!!! Mazda should not be allowed to sell cars that exhibit this problem! I will never purchase another Mazda with my money!! I am now waiting for an estimate from a Body Shop to see, if they can repair it? - Rochelle Ransom from United States of America

Mazda Tribute 2005

1 star review

My Mazda Tribute’s right rear wheel well rusted completely off, leaving my strut hanging. I had it welded at a friends shop at a cost of $1100 to fix it. Two months later he informed me he had had another with the same problem, which also had a sunroof.

Mazda Tribute 2004

A compact 4x4, I’m amazed that there are so few of them around in the UK as it is one of the best in its class. Almost identical to the Ford Maverick (Ford own parts of Mazda), the Tribute handles well and the style and performance are well above standard. You can pick these up really cheap second hand at the moment, especially from car supermarkets.
