Hi, I have noticed that my headlights flicker when driving and when using switches like the wipers and the indicators I have had the radio keep cutting out aswell. The car has also just died on me while in traffic but ran ok once restarted. I wonder if anyone knows what I can test for or if they have had a similar problem and what they done to resolve it? Many thanks!

Please could anyone explain why after short journeys my radiator needs topping up by as much as a pint of water. There is no leak underneath the car. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Answers

If your car also suffers from a poor heater you might have an airlock in the cooling system or a stuck thermostat stopping the circulation of coolant. Possibility of cylinder head gasket leaking, get the system sniff tested for combustion gases in the coolant, can be done by any competent garage and is not too expensive. Hugh from City of Glasgow

I have a car radio/audio casette player in this car. It is the original one the car was bought with. It turns on but just displays the number 521 with a small number 5 in the bottom right corner. None of the radio buttons do anything and inserting an audio casette also does nothing. No sound ever comes out. How do i fix it?

Peugeot 106

Hi, in the last couple weeks I've been having problems with driving my 106, every now and then when speeding up or pulling off I experience a loss of power which then kicks in after a moment, propelling me forwards similar to turbo, and I discovered whilst driving pack from Wales that the car won't do any more than 80, or at any speed, the rev counter starts to wobble and go wavy once pushed to 3500, if you try making the rev go higher than 3500 the counter just wobbles and it won't go any higher, my Dad thinks it might be a sensor, but to save messing around not knowing what I'm doing, does anyone have any idea's? Can the immobiliser be by-passed without a lot of fuss? Can the unit be easily pulled off the car for inspection? If so, how do I doe this. Note: This is a "key only" unit and not the one with a key pad.

hi I was wandering if anyone know how to put the back car seats down? thank you

Answers

To get everything flat you need to push your hand between the rear seat bases (squabs) and the back of the seats and gripping the rear curve of the seat base, pull the seat up and forward. it will rub against the bottom of the seat back and will need a good hard tug! There are on clips and can then either be removed or folded up against the back of the front seats. The rear seat backs are held up with small black sliding buttons on each end of the seat backs. Slide them sideways and the back seat backs unlock and fold forward. I think I'm right in saying there are grey cloth loops which when replacing the seat bases can be left poking out of the gap to make pulling up the seat bases easier next time. If they are there now, just pull them, if not, make sure they are sticking out for next time. don't forget to make sure your seat belt latches are also allowed to stick out so they can be used when you put the seat bases back! Hi guy i have a peugeot 106 1.1 1998 when i'm driving i get a big puff of white smoke coming from the muffler plz help me if someone know the problem thx

Answers

There are three kinds of exhaust smoke...Blue is oil, Grey is petrol and white is water. Blue oil smoke indicates worn piston rings if it is a light, constant haze under power, and worn exhaust valve guides if you get a puff when first flooring the throttle after decelerating. Both types of wear are down to the oil failing at high temperatures, either because the car is thrashed with budget oil in, or because the oil changes have been neglected. Grey smoke is excess fuel in the mixture. It is usually accompanied by high fuel consumption and is either a sensor problem on a fuel injection system, or a stuck open choke or worn jets on a carburettor equipped car. White smoke is water vapour. It is common on cold days when the engine first starts as damp in the exhaust system is dried out. If it is constant or after decelleration when the engine is hot, the problem is a failed head gasket letting water from the cooling system into the combustion chamber. It should be attended to straight away or catastrophic engine damage will occur as water gets into the oil and wrecks bearings, or even worse, hydraulic lock can stop a piston moving and snap a rod, or hole the piston. The uneven heat distribution caused by a failed head gasket can also warp the cylinder head, which will then be ruined or at best, require skimming by an engineering shop to recover the flat inner surface the gasket needs to seat properly. Hi, We have a 1999 peugeot 106 Zest2 1.1 hatchback. We apparently (recent diagnostic check following the car massively over revving on a regular basis) need to replace the air idle control valve. We have a new one, but need to know if there is a specific procedure to be followed when replacing the old one. I have read one or two comments online, but would be grateful if someone could provide a definitive process. I do not want to put the new one on and have the same problem. Thanks.

Hey, I have a Peugeot 106 and noticed yesterday that there seems to be a metallic sound when I'm driving - kind of like a chain being dragged underneath the car. Had a look for anything obvious but can't see anything (not that I know what I'm looking for, but there was nothing hanging off the underneath or anything). Has anyone else had this or have any clue as to what it could be? Can't get to a garage until next week so I want to be sure its safe for the school runs until then. Thanks :)

Answers

It is quite likely to be a loose exhaust . the join near the engine can loosen over time and the bracket will chatter against the underside of the car. Mine did this.......It was a 5 minute fix.... Jon from Wiltshire

I've just had to turn it on and off a few times til it turns off properly but it's a reoccurring problem I've noticed?

First, I saw this identical Problem on another website, but there were no replies to this same query: after fitting a new Transmech clutch to my 1996 Peugeot 106 Xs-i petrol manual transmission car, and reconnecting transmission, I am not able to start up my engine. It turns. but there's no sign of combustion in the engine. This is what happens: there's a thumping sound coming from the ECU, there is absolutely no spark and the engine warning light remains on when I swing the engine. Also - In case this additional info. helps, I also had the fuel rail assembly removed, in order to remove the injectors to change the upper injector ring/seal. I really, really hope someone out there can offer some advice. Thank you!

Answer this question

My 1999 1.1liter seems to have oil in the radiator. I've only purchased it recently and I've put about 1500 kilometers on it. The oil is NOT mixed in (like a tan cream) but in black oil globs which come up and out the radiator cap as it warms up. There is NO evidence of water in the oil. It's black and normal looking. There is a small (light oil smudge down block, not heavy) leak between the head and block on the front right side next to the timing belt. The engine runs very well, starts instantly (even in very cold weather) and gets over 40 mpg. Since I first discovered this I've driven over 500 kilometers (300 miles) without any problems. I checked the oil today, black and at the same level. I checked the water while it was warm and running, a tiny bit of oil came out and then just water with the rainbow sheen. I stuck my finger down into the radiator and loosened some oil off the wall but nothing more. Am I looking at a potential catastrophe here?
