KIA Picanto 2011

Intermittently, my Kia Picanto 2 emits a loud metallic rattle if speed hits 90mph. It sounds almost like an old style fire alarm! Nobody seems to be able to tell me what might be causing this. My dealership say they can’t find anything and, because the fault is at a speed in excess of the speed limit they are being very awkward about it. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or have any insight into what might cause such an alarming sound at high speeds? (2)

I have a problem with my Kia Picanto which started after a 3 hour journey. It is a loud rattling noise from the engine area. Three engineers think it may be an external pump problem but are unable to pinpoint the exact area. Prior to the journey I had the clutch replaced and wondered whether this has any significance. I would welcome any ideas.

hi my problem was with one of the injectors as it was stuck open causing lack of pressure in the common rai/ return system. It took the mechanic approx 10 minutes to identify the probem and 35 minutes to replace the injector and fix it. KIA Rio

Hello. I recently purchased this second hand 2012 Rio from main dealer. It's only done 13,000 miles from new and isn't even 3 yet. Since driving it back I have been noticing a really annoying squeaky noise, very much like a chirping cricket, coming from one of the air vents on the centre dash on passenger side. This happens when going over bumps and changing from low gears (up to about 3rd when taking foot off clutch pedal). It's not always constant but goes through phases of being there all the time then goes away a week and then comes back. I've felt the ridging above the air vent and wobbled it which then seems to recreate the squeak/chirping. Any ideas? Kia quoted £85 per hour and a 4 hour job but it is not confirmed yet as is booked in for road test. Only had the car 7 weeks :( help and advice much appreciated. Thank you.

Answers

i think this might be a little late to answer your question but have you heard of silicone spray'' you can buy it from auto factors' and when you have bought some try to spray a small amount in to the vent where you think the noise is coming from this might help with the noise problem you have. but some times it's hard to get rid of noise in modern cars with all the plastic and fiber they use. Hi Melanie, Gutted for you! No....apparently it should never snap and changing them is only out of precaution but it happened again two years later! We spent thousands on rebuilding the first engine but decided to buy a new one the second time it happened. We used a company ion Cardiff that supplied and fitted the reconditioned engine for around £2,300. I hope that helps! Rachel Rachel from Bridgend

KIA Picanto

I have 2 issues relating to clutch action and wondered if anyone had experienced the same. I have been back and forth to Kia since new. Car is a UK 63 plate KIa Picanto 3 1.25. 1. a kind of 'dum' noise on clutch release going up the gears 1-2, 2-3. quite frequent. Kia seem to suggest this is acceptable. The clutch release seems to be really slow to avoid this. Never experienced on other cars. 2. perhaps more concerning on engaging the clutch and moving out of gear, before entering the next gear a kind of double knocking noise. Only happens when clutch fully engaged. Initially it was 1st to 2nd but now more often 2nd to 3rd. Less often than 1st noise and pretty random. Any ideas much appreciated.

Answers

In case anyone needed an answer on this a new clutch was fitted and the gear oil was changed from Kia to Hyundai, it feels a completely different car to drive. I have a feeling the original clutch was either faulty or never adjusted correctly. Anyway noise 1 hardly ever occurs to the noise level or extent that it did originally. I have heard noise 2 but no where near as often as previously. I do think these are general PIcanto issues. Most people won't hear it because they have the radio or music on. However the Picanto requires a very slow and light gear change. Almost requiring half a second gap between foot flooring the clutch and disengaging gear stick to move into next gear. A great little car spoilt by this driving characteristic. I've driven most super mini's and this is very different to the rest. simon pugsley from Worcestershire

I have a 2006 Kia Carens auto and diesel. When turning left at about 20 mph upwards I get a fretting noise and sometimes light knocking at the same time. I can hear the noise from the left hand front. I have replaced the suspension arm, ball joint and complete strut, roll bar link but still have this noise. The noise does sound like the suspension or driving a train. Has anyone come across this problem?

Answers

Hey. I have this same problem from new in my 2007 carens crdi auto. It has been bacl loads of times to the "Mechanics" and I use the term lightly. It has had new parts fitted but the problem has always come back. It got worse and I had both front springs replaced because the bottoms had sheared off. It took a week for the knocking noise to come back. My car has done 88000 miles now , so I just consider that it is merely talking to me now, no need for a radio. On a run at high speeds I cannot hear it. Had the suspension checked etc, no joy. In fact a couple of times the "mechanics " refused to admit they heard the noise. Dropped one off in the middle of nowhere and made him walk back I was so angry. Laugh about it now though. Sorry, no help. alain from Cambridgeshire
