The central locking has stopped working. I can only open the drivers door with the key. The central locking override button does not work so I reckon the fuse has blown. The fuse box is behind the locked passenger door which will not open from the inside either. There is no lock to open any other door with a key and I can't even open the fuel cap and don't have enough Diesel to get to work or able to get my tools or gear out of the van. Please help!!!!!

Hey, just checking you are aware the windows drop when opening the doors to allow the windows to clear the seals around the edge of the door frame? Once the door shuts the window should close fully. Hope I helped Chris from Yorkshire

I'm having a similar problem with my wife's Renault flatulence. When you close the driver door the window does not automatically come up to make the seal. With a bit of playing i have noticed, each time i opened and closed the door the window dropped another inch or so. I turned on the ignition with the door open and the window switch would not work upwards, but does work downwards. If you close the door it goes up fine.... So to fully close the window i had to close the door and turn the window up from the passenger door. Going to have a proper look tomorrow when I have light. Daniel Ralston from Essex

The probable cause is blocked drainage channel under the bonnet . There is a plastic crossmember at the rear , just below the wipers held in place by 4 torx screws . I would have the piping from the washer bottle to the front jets checked as it may be kinked. Can you hear the motor working when you operate the washers? If not, have the pump checked and, although you’ve checked the jets, the Modus produces a very fine spray and the slightest blockage may prevent them from working Christopher Jameson from England

A short while ago we experienced excessive oil consumption on out of town trips, i.e. 1.5 - 2 lts. per 1000 kms. We have replaced the turbo charger, and the diaphram breather pipe, the diesel mechanic who replaced the turbo charger said the engine compression test was fine but that the oil sump seemed to have a higher than normal pressure. Is there is reason for this and what can we do about this. The Renault Garage here in Kimberley, South Africa, does not engender much confidence with us so going there is not an option, especially as we do not have the funds to pay their prices. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All. Hope someone is able to help. We had to replace the gearbox of our Grand Scenic 2009 DCI (7 seater). This took about three weeks and so the car was standing. After the the gearbox was installed the car started without any problems. Took it for a test drive and all seemed fine. The car was then switched off and when wanting to start again would not start. We jumped started with cables and she started but once going there was no power and kept wanting to die. We then took the battery out and charged it for 18 hours. Put the battery back and she started again. We then took her for a long drive and we got the following faults. Battery charging fault, Power steering fault with engine, seatbelt and abs warning lights on. We got home switched the car off and when trying to start her about an hour later she is completely dead. What can the problem be. Is it the battery. Regards Lynn

My Renault Master van 2.2 dci has an issue with the power steering belt, it keeps shredding after about 200 miles. It has been replaced twice now, once by Renault. Have you any ideas what the problem could be? (2.2 dci)

Answers

evening, check alignment of pulleys. does the tensioner pulley work if it does not put enough pressure on the fan belt it slips and overheats and breaks. does everything rotate freely including alternator and power steering pump. with engine running does the crank pulley appear to wobble, the pulley is made in 2 parts it becomes unbonded and the outer part runs out of true. the oil leak will be a damaged crank oil seal, part of the fan belt will have gone into it. easy to replace though. thanks bob storey from Kent

It is the oil leaking on the belt. I had the same issue. I located the oil leak and the belt`s still going strong. Roger from Blackpool

Fluid on the belt will cause this. Yes, check everything runs straight and square with the belt off. Have the injector pipes been off recently? With this engine, g9t, if an injector leaks from the top, it fills up a well in the cam cover, then can run behind the cambelt cover straight onto the aux belt. See if the wells round the injectors are full of fuel, can you smell diesel. Also.... after a belt shreds on these, Ive had small bits of belt tangled up in the crankshaft oil seal, and also in the steering pump oil seal. Both had to be replaced. To inspect the crank oil seal, get the pulley removed with air tools, it is all keywayed, you can remove the seal with the crank in situ by very carefully drilling a small hole in the central metal rib of the seal, screwing in a self tapper, and slide hammering it out. Just push the new one in until its flush, there is no rear foot for it to sit against, it easy to push them in too far. The pump seal you cant get to , and if its now leaking power steering fluid, you'll have to change the pump. Its work taking off the cam belt cover and checking the belt is dry (which it probably will be) as if this is oily, it'll need replacing immediately. Also, the bottom pulleys fall apart, they're a 2 part pulley with a lump of rubber in the middle- obviously as this breaks up it'll cause the belt to run off center. Hope this helps, regards, Simon simon from France

I have a Renault Grand Scenic it is 2L 16V 2005 automatic model. I'm having endless trouble with it. First of all it will run fine for days or even weeks and then all of a sudden while driving it will stall and tell me to push the break and start button. No other errors appear on the dash. All I then do is start the car again and it starts fine each time there after but cuts out a couple of times before I get back home again. The next day it will work fine again and may only stall again in a couple of days. Yesterday it stalled and when I tried to start it would not, the engine would just not kick over. I had to have it towed to the dealers to find the problem but now the car is running fine with them! I have recently had it serviced and the gearbox oil changed it was having this fault before I serviced it and was hoping the service would fix the problem. Normally before it cuts out I can feel it changing into gear whereas normally it is smooth when changing and I feel as though I have to give it more petrol so that it does not cut out. Can anyone help with this issue as I have spent so much money on this car and taken it to 3 places and no one can fix the fault!

I owned a 2011 Grand Scenic 3 TomTom Dynamique 1.5DCi. That one had an armrest in between the two seats which had the controls and a little joystick to operate the Satnav. That was written off and as I liked the car I bought the same in 2013 63 plate. This one was from a fleet company and did not have the arm rest thus not having the Satnav controls as I am guessing fleets take the option to not have them fitted. Qasim Rasul from Essex

Starter motor perhaps? Mick from Portugal

try turning on the lights then turn the key to the crank position do you hear a click from the solonoid and do the headlights dim? if no click i would run a remote start lead to the solonoid to bypass ign switch if it clicks but lights dont dim the solonoid is not throwing the gear to the flywheel far enough to feed power to the start motor or the motor is faulty could be as simple as washing out the starter motor debris take it off and run power to it by now you will know where to point the finger sometimes just clipping the starter motor with a hammer while another turns the key will get you home but I didnt tell you about that keep body parts away from moving metal it will eat you! Hi can anyone please help with a very annoying knocking noise coming from what sounds like the roof or boot.

Answers

Could be your roof "locks" , located above your front windshield. ( the front window ) . Locate the locks, and there you will find a nut . With this you can adjust the tension on the roof when its closed. You pull it further in, when you lock the roof. Petruccified from Netherlands

can you provide me with a picture of the nuts and how to get at them. Thanks stuart ahsworth from Greater Manchester

I have a 2006 Renault Modus 1.4 Dynamic. When I switch on the lights, the airbags deactivate, auto lights deactive, get a steering problem error and then the car cuts out. Battery was checked, it is fine. What can the problem be?

The battery may well be fine but how about the contact on the leads and connectors? John Touw from Lincolnshire

My engine over heat when I put air conditioning and my car stops when I check the colent bottle was empty. I just did the service like few weeks back. I end up finding out everything was loose the air pipe was disconnected and the colent place was loose. I take my car to the mechanic who did my service and he told me that was not the reason my engine overheating . He think my ingine is not good but my car run ok please advise me thank you.

Answers

I think you need a new mechanic ifhe thinks having no coolant does not cause overheating plus if he leaves things loose he's not bothered with your safety John Touw from Lincolnshire
