2011 Barbarian 176bhp manual Same problem, changing DOWN to 3rd. Wont go in unless I go to opening of 2nd, then into 3rd. This started at 60k. Today 70k, now wont change UP to 3rd if cold. So obviously gets worse if not dealt with. Other than this and the rusting sidesteps I absolutely love the truck.

Just purchased another l200 2007 animal, this is the seventh one I've had and well impressed with it, never had any problems with them. Lovely to drive, plenty of torque and if driven with the correct tyres on BFg all terrain unstoppable off road. If serviced regularly they will just keep going, have driven many 4x4 and nothing comes close to a Mitzi.

Buyer beware gearbox fault 4th to 3rd won't go in on down changing in just 26000 miles and I'm not alone ! just out of warranty so Mitsubishi won't help, they all need to be recalled s I have been informed by a gearbox expert "there is a built in fault" not enough spines on the shaft MITSUBISHI PLEASE PLEASE recall your gearboxes before your loose your reputation completely as everything else on this vehicle is perfect, I have driven almost every single model of l200's and truly believed nothing came close !

If you want a pickup that drives like a car, buy a car because no pickup can drive like that. This is a pickup and don’t confuse it with anything else. So when you do decide on one you won’t be disappointed. I bought a raging bull SE and it’s a head turner, under powered yes at 134 bhp, but the same engine in a barbarian is 174 so power upgrades are available but fuel consumption will suffer. I Use this truck everyday and it it easy to get used to. It could do with a reversing parking aid of some kind but that didn’t put me off when you got looks with full leather and chrome trimmings and immense space inside the truck. Choose the model that suits you, but try and get a used leased unit that hasn’t been used by a construction company etc., as mine was a bank leased unit with 60000 after 3 yrs with full service history and all the faults so many people report and you ll be fine. The manufacturers warranty is 125000 miles so there is confidence there if you need it. Avoid mileage above 125000 as resale values will suffer.

Absolute rubbish! My L200 Animal has needed two new clutches and flywheels in 3yrs and only 35000 miles. At my own cost I might add totaling £4500. Where’s the work horse and reliability in that? It doesn’t get used for towing or off road. I would never recommend a Mitsubishi. Avoid at all costs!

1 King Samual Street Brestak Village Well I have a 2002 Animal and drove in from the UK to Bulgaria without a problem and still driving it so far without a problem.Your vehicle is the new shape Mitsti and yes they are not as good as the old type like mine.I have heard that they have gear box problems and all kinds of other things that go wrong and I wouldn't buy a newer model myself. - from Suffolk

I did my research, looked for a long time before buying and found a not quite 3 year old vehicle with a few months residual warranty in very good condition and 27,000 miles on the clock. I used it for mainly light work, some off road but not much and drove steadily to keep it economical as possible. I didn’t quite reach 49,000 before it developed massive engine failure resulting in needing a new engine. I thought it was just bad luck but I found out there were 3 others just like it at the recon company when mine was sent in.... After contacting Mitsubishi I still haven’t had any reply 3 weeks later. Rubbish engines, rubbish service. Stick to other makes.

I’ve just got the diagnosis on my 4 year old warrior, which is used as a private car and never goes ’off road’. It needs a new engine. Within 8 hours of learning this i have heard of 3 others in the same situation - Simon Devine from Bedfordshire

What’s the matter with the engine? We have one here with water problems filling the expansion bottle, done everything, can only see the bores been perforated and that should not happen in this day and age - Jim Ledger from Yorkshire

Bought L200 from new on a 53 plate. Regularly serviced and only got 66k on the clock. Just developed a nasty tapping sound in engine which is now getting worse. Heared that L200 engines are prone to breaking up around the 50-70k mark on 03-04 models. Garage doesn’t yet know what it is. I’m waiting for the bottom end to drop out and that will be that. £23k gone in 7.5 years. Gutted. Mitsubushi should own up to their responsibilities on this engine - Simon Kluge from London
